Bestwind was founded in 1988 when the family business, which had been trading in marine supplies since 1958, was handed down to the son, Roberto. The company, which previously focused mainly on motor boating, shifted closer to wind-driven water sports. Sailing and Windsurfing became the core business, and the name changed from Nautica Benamati to BestWind. BestWind experienced the windsurfing boom, riding that wave of success that established Lake Garda as one of the most famous sailing arenas in the world.

The Sailing sector grew increasingly important in the store, driven by the success of the owner, who achieved victories on racing courses worldwide. Meanwhile, the shop expanded its retail space, introducing a floor entirely dedicated to windsurfing, a large street, casual, and fashion wear department, and new retail locations.
